Movie review: 'Kick-Ass 2' aims high but falls short

Fox, Harrison Ford and Guillermo del Toro. Here's the trailer: <!--iframe--> Most of today's movie posters seem like bad Photoshop jobs and aren't terribly awe-inspiring. Next to Struzan's detailed and remarkable work, they look 100 times worse. I had the pleasure of interviewing Struzan many years ago, and it was so exciting to hear stories about his relationships with some of my favorite movies. continue This doc is a must-see for fans of Star Wars and Spielberg and doesn't that include just about everyone? Drew: The Man Behind the Poster opens today in New York before expanding to other cities.
Source: http://www.usatoday.com/story/popcandy/2013/08/16/drew-struzan/2664217/

Movie review: Despicable Me 2

Andrews http://gilberteth.skyrock.com/3177975671-Kourtney-Kardashian-Scott-Disick-expecting-third-child.html (James Callis). Arriving dramatically midvisit is Capt. East (Ricky Whittle), a soft-porn actor with the hots for another guest (Georgia King), and theres a stableboy/chauffeur (Bret McKenzie) who views this all with a jaded eye. Theyre all actors, so Janes romance with any of them will be fictional until, of course, it isnt. There could have been a wonky, feminist-style Truman Show savviness laid beneath the story or even a creepy Fantasy Island angle, which would have been compelling.
Source: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv-movies/austenland-movie-review-article-1.1427842

The sequel's violence feels soft-pedaled compared with the first film, continually shying away from being too graphic and with little of the gleeful revelry that give the first "Kick-Ass" its energy and punch. That internal tension reaching for outrage but hesitantly pulling back culminates in Wadlow's handling of the comic's notorious rape scene. (And the comic's writer Mark Millar recently sparked controversy with comments on his repeated use of rape Kim Kardashian xvideos as a storytelling device.) Wadlow switches the character who gets attacked from Kick-Ass' high school-age girlfriend to the adult female character known as Night Bitch. Wadlow also attempts to diffuse the scene with humor by having Mintz-Plasse's character unable to, er, perform. Transforming a rape scene into a sex joke makes an ugly moment into a tacky one and would seem the definition of not getting it. The entire film feels like something of a cop-out, a soft shrug rather than a hard slap.
Source: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/moviesnow/la-et-mn-kick-ass-2-20130815,0,7182428.story

Starring Ashton Kutcher in the title role, the film is essentially an unauthorized take on the infamous tech visionary. Another movie, based on Walter Isaacsonspopular biography Steve Jobs which included the cooperation of Jobs, his family and the company is in development with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin attached to write, but no projected release date for that film has yet been given. Judging by the reviews for Jobs, there still may be plenty of room for another film treatment. As of Friday morning, Jobs is carrying a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 26% meaning about three quarters of the reviewers tabulated have given the flick a Thumbs Down. The RT rating among so-called top critics was even lower at 20%. The movie also didnt fare well with the affable Steve Wozniak, Kim Kardashian eyebrows who was portrayed in the film by Josh Gad of The Book of Mormon fame. In a blog posting on Gizmodo , Wozniak called the acting good and said he was attentive and entertained but not greatly enough to recommend the movie. And he denied the claim that hes criticizing this movie because he is serving as a paid consultant on the Steve Jobs project.
Source: http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/08/16/steve-jobs-movie-slammed-by-critics-and-woz/

Southbury Movie Theater: We Asked, You Answered

We had a Y, movie theatres, the beach, stores, parks and rec, strong school music programs, many church groups, and other activities. Guess what? Kids still said there was nothing to do...I like the small town feel of Southbury. There is plenty to do with kids nearby if you avail yourself." Angela Tosti Flynn What about a smaller theater? Fourteen people were in favor of a movie theater in Southbury, but on a smaller scale than eight to 10 screens. "... Asmaller theater would make more sense. Something akin to what Newtown has.
Source: http://southbury.patch.com/groups/business-news/p/southbury-movie-theater-we-asked-you-answered

Steve Jobs movie slammed by critics — and Woz

Not to get too mercenary, but the Minions are up for their own movie, and Despicable Me 2 at times plays like an extended trailer for it. The mood of the film is close to that of a Wallace & Gromit film: idiosyncratic characters get into trouble that forces them to run amok in a way that makes a sort of mad logic if you follow the unhinged plot strands. Gru has gone into the jam and jelly business a itas his post-villain vocation a which comes in handy when an anti-serum is developed to make nutsy creatures sane again and itas shot into their mouths with a condiment squirter. Directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud are working with a story that doesnat have the heart of the first one, a vacuum they replace with absurd developments and shameless sight gags. A few of them pop right off the screen: this is one of the few movies to take advantage of its 3D effects, and the animation is first-class.
Source: http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Movie+review+Despicable/8607027/story.html
